Outreach Projects
Our Outreach Projects include providing school grants to local teachers, participating in Girl Scout activities,  making quilts or quilt related projects for local Charity endeavors, and creating Quilts of Love for members having a significant illness or losing a close family member.

School grants for the 2009-2010 school year resulted in some great quilts!
The  Quilts were shown by the teachers and some of their students

Quilts of Love
The Quilts of Love are made for members who have a significant illness or lose a close family member.  Here are a couple of examples of some of the quilts.

This quilt was created with assistance from one of our School Grants.

June 2007 Meeting
At the June meeting, one of the Show and Tell items was a quilt made by 1st grade students.  Their teacher had received one of the grants provided by the guild.  In conjunction with the art teacher at the school, the students painter blocks showing their concept of "Freedom".  One of the students attended, along with his teacher and the principal at the school.  Names and details will follow, but here are the photos. at Vass Elementary School.  Details of some of the blocks are shown here.

May 2007
At the May meeting, one of the Show and Tell items was a quilt made by 2nd grade students at Southern Pines Primary School.  Their teacher, Tommye Mangum, a member of our guild, had received one of the grants provided by the guild.  The students were asked to make a block indicating what they would do if they could improve the world by flying over certain places.  After the teacher pieced the quilt, the students helped with the tying of the quilt.  Details of some of the blocks are shown here.

2007 Tree of Lights Festival
In 2007, the Guild prepared a Christmas Wreath with quilted ornaments, to be included in the local Christmas Tree Festival, with the proceeds from the sale going to the Sandhills Childrens Center.

2000 Pink Ribbon Quilt
In 2000, Teena Little challenged the Guild to create a "Pink Ribbon" quilt.  The stars in the quilt were created with fabric provided by breast cancer survivors and family members, and the quilt was tied with pink ribbon bows.  After being displayed at the Breast Cancer Research Golf Tournament in May, 2000, the quilt was auctioned off for $21,000. for the benefit of Breast Cancer Research.  The quilt then traveled in a special display case with the LPGA Medical Exposition during the 2001 LPGA tour season, returning to Southern Pines when the US Women's Open was played at Pine Needles Golf Course.
